Giving Thanks Today
At the end of each calendar year we often reach out to colleagues and thank them, perhaps for sending us business or being a valued service provider. And occasionally, we receive a surprise thank you from some one whom we didn’t expect. Those are priceless.
This week René had the pleasure of nominating her former professor Dr. Bill Briggs for IABC Fellow, one of the highest honors given to communication professionals. For three decades Dr. Briggs has written articles, created curriculum, inspired students and counseled professionals around the world — and it was in his PR writing class that she discovered her ability to find real news amidst fluff and communicate it with purpose and passion. René is honored to be able to tell the selection committee, and her mentor, how much he influenced her career and that of thousands more!
And once a year, René will get a call from Susan Lehman of Rockpoint Public Relations, who STILL thanks her for “changing her life” more than a decade ago. Apparently, René convinced Susan to leave Apple and start her own business. Thankfully, it turned out well.
Who has made a difference in your career?
If you are a successful marketer or communicator, someone helped you master writing and speaking skills, hired you for that dream job, mentored you in your career, or gave you business advice that resonates to this day.
Ronald Reagan said, “We make a living by what we get; We make a life by what we give.” Now is the time to give thanks for those who helped you make a living. What are you waiting for?
